What is your favorite childhood toy? What makes it special to you?
I'm doin' a top five.
1. I learned how to read at a very young age because my mom and dad would throw anything with words in front of me. Before I started the NY Times, my favorite thing to read/have read to me was this book:
I am a bunny. My name is Nicholas. I live in a hollow tree.
2. It was pretty obvious that I was going to be a nerd from a young age. Alphie + Natalia = BFF4LIFE
3. When you put tapes into Teddy Ruxpin's back, his mouth would move along with the text to books and you could read along with him.
4. Rollerblade Barbie was equipped for a 'blade in the park with a yellow visor (girl where is your helmet?), a pink fanny pack and oh yeah, rollerblades that were essentially mini-lighters and would send out sparks when you ran them across carpet. Mattel got in trouble for that one. But, seriously, how cool is that?
5. I'm not really sure why I ever got this (Dad, do you remember?) but I did own the MC Hammer collectible doll. He came with parachute pants, a mini-mullet molded into the back of his scalp and a tape with Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em on side 1 and an anti-drug message on side 2. Priceless.
I just relived my childhood; you can wax nostalgic too!

teddy ruxpin was the shit. now its kind of creepy.
Any Barbie.
Okay, here I go aging myself again. The little kiddles. Original little kiddles, Natalia..lol. I had the house and car too. Actually, I wish I still had the whole kit and kaboodle *wink*
That MC Hammer doll is too hip for words.
A Barbie that sets fire to the carpet - all the really cool ones came out after I was grown up. I always thought Teddy Ruxpin was creepy, but I was an adult when it came out.
@getitwhenyoucan - I remember Little Kiddles - my sister had all of them.
I loved Teddy Ruxpin so much. I also really like my popple. Those things were so cute
Hahaha. I think it's funny how you turned this into a top five...!
ALFIEEE!! I almost forgot about him!
I don't care what people think...Hammer is the crap. I would like to see Hammer and Usher go at it in a 80's breakdance battle old school style. That would be "fresh" and "rockin". WORD! And Teddy Ruxpin was the crap too back in the day. My favorite toy's growing up was anything Ninja Turtles, Ghostbusters, Batman (can ya tell?) and Nintendo (for those youngins, yes, Nintendo had video games in the past that didn't have you get up or touch a screen to play a game). I also remember My Buddy and Stretch Armstrong and Fraggle Rock, JEM, Slap Bracelets, POGS.....man, the list goes on...those were the days...
OMG!! I loved my Teddy Ruxpin!... but i always stuck my fingers in his mouth when he was talking and then it broke... :'(
Teddy Ruxpin scared the living shit out of me. I was more dissapointed that the projector he came with wasnt a TV. What the... colored pictures with audio commentary? That's my mom's job, that's what bedtime stories are for! Freakin Teddy Ruxpin, trying to steal our jobs.
I once almost set our house on fire because I was playing with my sister's roller bladin' Barbie and ran it through some gasoline.
Don't forget...

Dum deedee dumdum...dum deedee dee! Now that was creepy!
MC Hammer wsa hot and you guys were watching one of his performances, Mom saw your interest and we found one at Target... what a riot!
@greygeek - zach relayed a similar story to our furby . . . his was a talking troll doll and his mom had to take a hammer to it to make it quiet down. is furbs still on the mantel? we need to get him out and scare ellie
That MC Hammer doll may be one of the best things I have ever seen. HA, they stuck anti-drug messages absolutely everywhere in those days! XD
Oh geez, I remember the Teddy Ruxpin- I still have mine (and Grubby too!) down the basement! The rest of my things aren't things everyone would recognize, though. I do remember a favorite bathtub book called Sidney the Seahorse I had when I was a toddler: "Sidney the seahorse in the ocean below loves to stop and say hello!" I still have this small strange, green, doglike animal with a beanbag body that was once my mother's named Woofle Dithers. And there's a small clay piglike creature I named Bleen Grue because for eyes it had a blue faux gem and on the other a green one. Yes, Woofle Dithers and Bleen Grue are still on display in my room just for the nostalgia.
@batmanfan27 - I loved Ninja Turtles too, and Popples were the bomb!
That's awesome! MC Hammer, haha!
@cApNhOwDy - LOL
@mistress_onixx - Popples was the crap too back in the day. I actually made a CD with all the old school theme songs from back in the day. Like Popples, Wuzzles, Bill Nye The Science Guy, Letter People (Which scares me even to this day) and others. Does anybody remember the show "Pinwheel" that was on Nickolodeon back in the early 80's? That opening theme still gives me nightmares (no joke). If ya don't remember the show, go to Youtube and type in "Pinwheel Theme Song". That'll scare ya more than Freddy Kruger
hey, are you Miss Polar Bear?
@thinkpinkpanther - negative - i am neither tattooed enough nor cool enough to be her!
I had the robot guy! I never could remember his name, but you are not the only dork who loved that thing. Hehe
And Teddy Ruxpin was awesome.
Can't Touch This!
The only thoughts I have about Teddy Ruxpinwere these: a kid I hated in grade school who was a rich little bastard who thought he was better than everyone had one. That's the only time I ever saw one, and he wouldn't let me play with it.
My favorite childhood toy? I loved my Capsela set. Google it.
I have to go with KID SISTER. I carried that doll around until her head literally fell off. She used to ride in the buggie at the store with me and everything. what was really funny was one day I had her bundled up in a blanket (It was cold and i was about seven) and some lady thought she was a real kid. Actually asked my mom why she was letting me run through the store with a little girl in the buggie. so funny!
Let me guess . . . if anyone ever tries to pick up your MC Hammer doll, you quickly grab it, saying, "You can't touch this!"
Hahahah I had that Barbie. Tooooo cool!
I got the new Teddy Ruxpin made by Back Pack Toys Inc.
