  • input, plzkthx

Been going through a lot of blogs lately that have said that their authors have “ditched Xanga for [Facebook, MySpace, other site]” but that many of them are coming back to Xanga (yay!).

In your experience, are there sites online that are mutually exclusive? I’m on so many websites that I can hardly keep track of them all – Xanga for everything, Facebook for school, MySpace for . . . nothing (why am I still on there? I don’t like it and it breaks all the time), last.fm for music, etc., etc., etc. Maybe I’m just a multi-tasker and can handle all of these sites at once.

  • I tried mysace for a week… I just didn’t see the point… Besides I am in total love with xanga.

I should get around the internet more, I find that I wander aimlessly and never find anything productive on my own… that’s why I love getting links from people… There are so many cool things out there, but there is so much more JUNK!

Hope your having a great day! did you remember to upload Regina?

  • I use Xanga to post about my life and talk to peole I’ve never met.  I use Facebook mainly for posting picturs and keeping in touch with old friends.  I have a MySpace, but rarely use it.

  • I think they each have a certain market niche in which they dominate. Xanga in my opinion is the best site for blogging and general interaction. Facebook is sort of a cataloging system for people. MySpace…I keep thinking I should delete mine because I’m not sure what it’s for anymore. YouTube has a certain addictive factor to it. They’re all fun but no single one excludes the others entirely.

  • hmm, i mostly stick to my google  homepage for news and what not and then gmail and xanga. i never did the myspace/facebook thing and i NEVER check my friendster account. oops. haha.

  • I have been trying so hard to influence my friends to come back to xanga.  It has been my first and foremost love in the online blogging world.  I have a MySpace and a Facebook, but I do my real blogging on Xanga…and now it seems like no one reads it ’cause they’re all off doing other stuff.  Some of my friends recently even started up new blogspots and stuff, which is ridiculous ’cause what can you do there that you can’t do on Xanga and it’s so much easier to navigate through your subscriptions on here.  Please, people, let’s bring Xanga back and get it hoppin’ again!!!

  • I mostly use MySpace for pornography, and I use Facebook to stalk people.

I’m kidding.  I don’t use any of those sites.

  • i think i’ve stayed a xangan because it was the first one of its kind
    – at least, the first one that i heard of and that became popular.
the other site i use is livejournal, which i like for their communities.

would it be overgeneralizing to presume that the different sites are sort of age-related?  as in, myspace is typically overrun by junior highers, facebook by upper senior high and college.  at least, that’s how they started out as first.  people joke that xanga is all asian, but still, i think that this site is one of the least socially stratified networks that i’ve seen.  (then again, i have neither a myspace nor a facebook, so there is a definite possibility that i don’t know what i’m talking about. =P)

  • i have tried facebook and myspace generally because someone i know pointed me in the direction of those sites.  i was brought here for the same reason (someone asked me to join) however I have found this site very easy to use and I enjoy it a lot.  I HATE the hassle of myspace!  Never did anything but register at facebook.  I never go to either of those two sites anymore, unless i am checking up on local people and my children (heehee, subject for another debate LOL)

  • out of all the sites, xanga is by far my favorite.  if this were a race, facebook and myspace would’ve been lapped by now.  maybe even twice.

  • Thanks again for all your help with my password and stuff.

I looked at your top 20 movies list.  There’s a ton I need to see.  You should really see Lars and The Real Girl if you didn’t.

  • Yeah, I think people prefer simpler GUI’s, an easy way to browse, (almost) complete, open accessibility, and not copying what the others are trying to do (Picture tagging people, for example.)

Facebook seems more about user-created apps and goofing off in lab, MySpace for… well, not sure… But Xang, with the less bells and whistles, is my preference simply because if I start getting bent out of shape because I’m not in someone’s top 8 or I don’t have any virtual drinks being sent my way, I’ve already lost perspective on what is going on. Stars are interesting, I guess (haven’t used them, or my 286 credits.) I’ll prob never take advantage of that feature though.

I use Blogger as a personal journal, but only because there’s no clear way to browse through other people’s that I’ve found w/o using Googleblog search.

Proliferation of choice has become a real hassle.

  • i’m staying with xanga until i’m the only one out of all my friends who still logs an update from time to time. then I might close the book.

who am i kidding. i’ll still keep my xanga!

but to be perfectly honest, i think facebook has swallowed up many, many former xangans.

the CEO of facebook is truly a visionary. i have a quote of his saved that can be applied to any life-changing application.

but i’m not on facebook so i have yet to give it a twirl and see what he’s saying.

but part of the reason i’ve stayed loyal to xanga is i’m more interested in thoughts and opinions and idea-based, word-based, content-based website communities than “social networking for the sake of social networking” sites. if facebook is truly onto something revolutionary, it will still be there when I want to join. otherwise, i’m going to make it prove to me it’s not just friendster 2.0.

    go xanga go!

  • I have a myspace, Facebook and Blogger.  myspace really doesn’t meet any of my needs.  I mostly signed up because I have a teenager who formerly had a myspace.  I have a Facebook but 45 year olds aren’t  really into Facebook into a big way so I haven’t found too many people there.  Blogger is a joke – I think people go their to be anonymous.  I never see anyone commenting on anyone’s Blogger page.

  • natalia!!! we talked on the live broadcast thing you had today! :)
i love xanga cuz i putting up pics and i love reading peoples blogs. amazing but i still keep in touch with 2 of my friends from, we write and call each other on the phone. i do have a facebook as well, i guess for school friends, but they are the same people on my myspace! lol myspace is getting boring though lol

and i love going to aznv.tv to go and watch korean or any type of asian movies/dramas and animes! ehehe

  • Hi Natalia* First you did a great job there today :) kudos* and I see you don’t have a habit of smiling by your profile pic :) you are a sweetie…and I see the problem with those other site and your trying to get people to understand ‘Xanga’ and just what it is all about and not bringing in a bunch of kids to make it not what it was…getting ‘real’ people like the ones we have here..it’s hard…I am going to think on it..ask friends too…and if any great ideas come up…I’ll let you know. Take good care..PS-.I wanted to ‘see’ that chat…xanga means so much to me..now even more…people ill…need support.:( and other things…you just don’t get that anywhere else..I have mentioned it  in my posts many times in the past..how special it is here..and everyone agrees….* Lee

  • I don’t really go to Facebook and as for Myspace I was never a really big fan of it but there were a few people I talked to on there. Since the strike I haven’t been on there at all. I’m all over the place actually probably in too many places but I’m liking it over here. I have multiple blogs so I’m at LJ too and Blogger and Vox which all have their good points. I really should go around and delete at some of these places that I never go to like Friendster and Facebook since they are just sitting there.

  • are you xanga staff ? if so could you help me some1 has stolen my pics & art & is maliciously impersonating me.

  • facebook is duh truth!

  • Maybe you just have too much time on your hands. =)

  • You’re so popular on here, it’s kinda funny! we have to hang out sometime soon, keep up the good xanga work

  • howdy mam hope you’re doin’ well

  • I love your blog! Check out mine? Don’t forget to comment! Come see all
my thoughts, hopes, dreams, and opinions! And tell your friends on
xanga, so they can comment too. Thanks!

  • I used to use Blogger.com and Gather as well as IMPNOW.COM…. I have since stopped using all three because I wasn’t getting any valuable feedback…. I still use Myspace even though I get about 13 profile/blog views a week, but Xanga has  become the one place where I TRULY get feedback from people on anything from a fiction story I wrote to updates about my life to the crazy things I think….

AND If I’m being honest, I rather like the Featured Questions…. I only wish I knew how to SUBMIT one…. that would be Tres cool! I’m the king of randomness… I have a MILLION of them!

  • @EdwardHancockII - you can submit ‘em at xanga.com/featuredquestions – there’s a chatboard just for recommendations :)
